One of the urgent problems of the Philippines is the lack of access to public libraries especially by children in developing communities. Without access to books, these children lack the tools to give them a fighting chance at life.
To help ease this problem, EGF started the Library-in-a-Box Project which repurposes container vans as retrofitted disaster resilient libraries which would be transported to areas where they are needed the most. This also helps in easing the perennial problem of port congestion in Philippine ports.
The Foundation, with partners from USAID, the US Peace Corps, IBM and the Rotary Club of Paranaque Metro South among others, was able to donate container van libraries to Cabangan Elementary School in Camalig, Albay (2014) and Naga Central School in Naga City (2015). By the end of the year in 2016, EGF would have also delivered another library in the seaside town of Goa in Camarines Sur. Through your help, these children would now have better chance at having a bright future.
